Journeyman Bladesmith
I recently earned my Journeyman Smith certification with the American Bladesmith Society (ABS).  I'm Super Relieved! It is exciting to be tested and know that I am improving my skills to honour this technical and visceral ancient craft.
Teaching the persuasion, precision, and passion in the relationship between ourselves and the steel we forge has such satisfaction for me. You too can communicate with the steel being forged with your own hands!

I'm a return champion on FORGED IN FIRE, this last time was the premier episode of BEAT THE JUDGES, where I beat other champions for the honour of competing against a judge! I had a great time and made a few more friends.

Welcome, I'm John Summerhill and I work in my shop "Big Daddy's Hammerworks" in Sterling Heights, a northern suburb of Detroit Motor City.
I used to forge and sharpen young minds and hearts in the school systems. Now I forge and sharpen custom knives, swords, and other specialty items.  It's a tremendous way to communicate the passion and creativity I have inside: so much so that I've added basic bladesmithing classes to my business.  It's your chance to shine with a hands-on lesson in blazing forged steel.
Having one or more of my custom pieces is like collecting durable art that can be used for a life time and beyond with proper care. Smithing your own blade at "Big Daddy's Hammerworks", is another realm of art, connection, experience, and ownership.
Take a look around and shop "Big Daddy's Hammerworks." -Thank You, J.S.

Check out my latest knife and sheath that I just finished and is available. This is in the style of a Hudson Bay Company camp knife. Blade is 5160 that is 12” and 18” overall. It has been etched to give it a nice patina. The handle is Wenge wood with brass liners and 1/2” brass pins. It’s finished off with a brass lanyard hole. The sheath is 12oz leather with a weave pattern and a belt strap that articulates. This is a beast of a knife and it’s available! Message me if you’re interested. #bladesmith #blacksmith #knife #knifemaker #knifemaking #handmade #knives #bladesmithing #knifeporn #forgedinfire #blade #handforged #forged #knifelife #customknives #blacksmithing #knifenut #forge #forging #customknife #blades #damascussteel #damascus #edc #hunting #knifecommunity #steel #sword #bushcraft #forgedinfirechampion
